What we do

Being a research organization, CBPS has in depth knowledge and experience in the field of governance related issues. Various studies have been taken up so as to see how specific schemes have been faring at the ground level. CBPS has also helped the state government in analyzing problem situations from time to time. Inputs are being provided to policy makers on the issue of service delivery.

We are especially known for our work on decentralisation and the analysis of budgets at all levels: state level and various levels of local governments. We have undertaken studies in many states of India including Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.

CBPS has organized many training and consultation workshops at the local level, leading to the production of training manuals, brochures and other material which are being utilized by partner organizations as part of their resource materials. We have also produced documentaries based on our field experiences, which serve as resources for us as well other organisations.

CBPS believes in capacity building of organizations that have similar research goals. Based on the evidence gathered from research and its experience in understanding issues related to local government, CBPS has conducted several trainings for elected representatives of local self-governments, NGOs and CSOs, on various issues of governance like budget analysis, equity issues in local governance, role of elected representatives in the delivery of services in the areas of health, education and water, etc.
