Prevalence of stunting and wasting due to malnutrition among children and women is a serious issue in
the country and especially in Karnataka. Global Nutrition Report 2016 holds that nutrition is central
to SDGs and it feeds into 12 of the 17 SDGs. While some indicators of these 12 SDGs are highly relevant
to nutrition, others are not so relevant. In what would be a complimentary exercise to the SDG Budget Analysis, CBPS is working on a comprehensive report on nutrition expenditure in Karnataka by
(i) analyzing the budget and expenditure of Karnataka for 2014-15 by identifying heads that are ‘nutrition specific’
and those that are ‘nutrition sensitive’, (ii) using other sources such as DHDR.
