End Term Review of the project – Building Stakes, Strengthening Quality: Nirantar’s Interventions in Literacy and Education Completed

Area(s) of work: Education

Duration: February 2021 to April 2021

Status: Completed

Funder/ Partner: Nirantar Trust

Nirantar has been working on adult education modules since its inception, but formalised a particular module for adult education from 2009 onwards. From 2015 onwards, it undertook a five year project to deepen the work that they were already doing in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and to act as a Resource Agency for organisations who do not necessarily work in this space. After five years of implementing this programme in UP and Jharkhand, Nirantar requested CBPS to evaluate this programme. The larger goal of the evaluation was to assess the implementation and impact of the programme to derive learnings, best practices, challenges, and limitations of the programme. The specific objectives of the evaluation was to review Nirantar’s role as a resource organisation, review the literacy programme and provide recommendations related to strategies, pedagogy and quality of the programme. In order to ensure that we were able to use our time efficiently, we decided to employ primarily two methods: document review, and qualitative field methods of personal interviews (virtual and in-person), focus group discussions, and limited participation-observation.
