The title of the chapter is ‘Private Schools, Religion and Commerce: Blurred Boundaries and Opaque Governance in India’. It explores the relationship of education with religion and commerce. Analysing the private education system from Pre-colonial to contemporary times, the chapter argues that the two prime motivators of Private education provisioning in India are religion and commerce.
