Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) was a centrally sponsored programme initiated in 2007 in 250 backward districts of the country. The programme was designed with the dual purpose of meeting the unfulfilled critical infrastructural (development) gaps and strengthening of the participatory development processes through decentralized planning and implementation. Six districts of Karnataka were covered under the programme. CBPS had been entrusted to assess the effectiveness of the programme in those districts.
