Nirantar had been working on adult education modules since its inception but formalised a specific module for adult education in 2009. From 2015 onward, it undertook a five-year project to deepen its efforts in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and act as a resource agency for organisations not primarily focused on this area. After five years of implementing the program in UP and Jharkhand, Nirantar requested CBPS to evaluate the initiative. The evaluation aimed to assess the implementation and impact of the program, deriving learnings, best practices, challenges, and limitations. Specific objectives included reviewing Nirantar’s role as a resource organisation, evaluating the literacy program, and providing recommendations related to strategies, pedagogy, and quality. To ensure efficient use of time, the evaluation employed two primary methods: document review and qualitative field methods. These included personal interviews (both virtual and in-person), focus group discussions, and limited participation observation. This comprehensive approach sought to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of Nirantar's adult education initiatives.
