Centre for Budget and Policy Studies (CBPS) conducted its annual event, the Poornima Vyasulu Memorial Lecture, which honours the legacy of one of our founding members. The Memorial Lecture was delivered by Dr. Amit Basole, Professor of Economics and Head, Centre for Sustainable Employment, Azim Premji University on the topic ‘What would a National Employment Policy look like?’
The Memorial Lecture was held on Tuesday, 28 May 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Indian Institute of World Culture, Bengaluru. It was an evening of thought-provoking ideas, discussion, and conversations.
About the speaker:
Dr. Amit Basole is Professor of Economics and the Head of Centre for Sustainable Employment at Azim Premji University. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a PhD in Neuroscience from Duke University. His principal fields of concentration are Poverty and Inequality, Informality, Employment, Structural Change, and Political Economy of Knowledge. His work is primarily on the Indian economy.
About Dr. Poornima Vyasulu:
Dr. Poornima Vyasulu completed her PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and was one of the co-founders of CBPS. She not only contributed to its intellectual development, but nourished a working culture of care and camaraderie. Dr. Poornima was well-known for her diversity of interests and capabilities, ranging from music to theatre, which she seamlessly brought to her work.
The Memorial Lecture is our way of paying tribute to a truly multifaceted individual and her enduring influence on CBPS.
