Jyotsna Jha gives Keynote Address on Gender and Education at AKU, Karachi

The Agha Khan University and Working Group for Women organised a conference on ‘Gender: Moving Beyond the Basics’  on the thematic areas of Education, Health, Research and Training between 26-27 November 2013 in Karachi. Jyotsna Jha, Director of CBPS, gave the keynote address in the session on Gender and Education. In her address, she emphasised the need for a shift in approach in favour of substantive gender equality. She also cautioned against education that is not transformative, but instead creates and reinforces dogma to perpetuate inequalities and maintain the status quo, and called for policy interventions to check these.
