Dr. Jyotsna Jha to deliver IGC India Special Lecture at Patna conference and Dr. Niveditha Menon to moderate panel discussion on Economic Empowerment.

On the occasion of International’s Women’s Day, on 8 March 2021, the International Growth Centre of the London School of Economics (IGC) and Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), in collaboration with Women Development Corporation (WDC), Government of Bihar, is organising a conference titled, Women Empowerment – Issues, Evidence and Policy Response’ in Patna. As part of the conference, Dr. Jyotsna Jha (Director, CBPS) will be presenting the IGC India Special Lecture titled, March Past on March 8: Are we moving towards substantive gender equality?. The lecture will be chaired by Sri. Sanjay Kumar (IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department, Government of Bihar).

Following the special lecture, a panel discussion titled, Women Economic Empowerment: Constraints and Solutions will be moderated by Dr. Niveditha Menon (Senior Research Advisor, CBPS). The panel will be chaired by Sri. Brijesh Mehrotra (IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department, Government of Bihar) and co-chaired by Smt. Harjot Kaur Bamhrah (IAS, Managing Director, Women Development Corporation (WDC), Government of Bihar). The panelists for this discussion are Dr. Ashmita Gupta (Assistant Professor, Asian Development Research Institute) and Dr. Paramita Majumder (Former Gender Budget Expert, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India).

Later in the day, an ADRI Special Lecture and two panel discussions will be organised on the topics of ‘Challenges facing women in a post COVID world’, ‘Gender and Health: Issues, Evidence and Policy Response’ and ‘Women, Agriculture and Co-operatives’, respectively.
