In India and particularly in Karnataka, the prevalence of stunting and wasting due to malnutrition among children and women is a serious issue. The Global Nutrition Report 2016 holds that nutrition is central to SDGs, with linkages to 12 of the 17 SDGs. Some indicators of these 12 SDGs are highly relevant to nutrition. In a complimentary exercise to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Budget Analysis, CBPS worked on a comprehensive report on nutrition expenditure in Karnataka by:
(i) analyzing the budget and expenditure of Karnataka for 2014-15 by identifying heads that are ‘nutrition specific’ and those that are ‘nutrition sensitive’
(ii) using other sources such as DHDR.
