The study analysed micro-irrigation (drip and sprinkler) in Karnataka, by crops and districts, under the National Mission for Micro Irrigation (NMMI). It examined targeted subsidies across different beneficiary categories besides documenting best practices across states in implementation of NMMI.
Key objectives include assessing the economic rationale for adopting micro irrigation, documenting best practices, and evaluating the progress of the schemes. The study looks at the targeting of subsidies across beneficiary categories and discusses the socio-economic characteristics of beneficiaries. It also identifies challenges faced in the implementation of these schemes and offers policy recommendations for improvement. The suggested sampling methodology and terms of reference for follow-up studies aim to fill data gaps and enhance the understanding of micro irrigation's effectiveness.
